Our vacation, Part 2

Brett and I had a whirlwind, fantastic vacation to Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Here is part two of our vacation recap.

Saturday, August 1

It’s wedding day! The wedding started at 2 p.m., but we didn’t have to be there until 1 p.m. We slept in, got ready for the day and headed to the Danbury Fair Mall to meet Brett’s parents. While the guys took off to find coffee, Brett’s mom and I took our time looking around and strolling through the mall. After buying a few cute finds, we made a stop at Dick’s Sporting Goods and grabbed lunch in the food court.

After lunch, we were on our way to the wedding. It was a backyard wedding with a babbling creek as the backdrop. Very picturesque!

While it was pretty warm and humid, there was plenty of shade and refreshments. I didn’t get nearly as hot and sweaty as I thought I would. (Yay!) The ceremony was simple and sweet, and the bride and groom glowed with love and happiness.

When the ceremony was over, the reception began. There was an abundance of food, music, dancing and fun. We even wandered around on some trails that followed the creek.

The reception was over by 7 p.m., so on our way back to our hotel, Brett and I stopped in Ridgefield, NY, to take a stroll through the park and enjoy the nice evening. It had been a long day, so we headed back to our hotel and hit the hay.

Sunday, August 2

Before leaving Connecticut to drive back to my sister’s, Brett’s dad found a cute diner for us to have breakfast together. Once breakfast was over (and Brett found Starbucks, of course), we were on our way back to PA!

Since we began planning our trip, I wanted to at least drive through Scranton, PA. It’s the location of “The Office,” and we are huge fans of the show. The drive was absolutely gorgeous and so much easier (and faster!) than going by NYC. There were also no tolls on this route! Hallelujah!

When we got to Scranton, we wanted to find Poor Richard’s Pub, a frequent place shown on the show. However, the handy GPS took us to a bowling alley. This can’t be right, I thought. But after doing a Google search, it was revealed Poor Richard’s is located in a bowling alley. And didn’t open until 2 p.m. We were there at about noon. Fail.

For our second site, we went to the Steamtown Mall (often brought up in the show). While it had signs all over about Scranton, we couldn’t find anywhere that sold “Office” memorabilia, and many of the stores in the mall were closed. Kind of disappointing.

We grabbed a quick lunch at Burger King and finished our journey back to my sister’s house. Kenzie was ready to play, and we all ended up getting soaked playing with her Slip ‘N Slide and splash bombs.

We had delicious homemade pizza made by brother-in-law for supper and visited an adorable ice cream parlor for dessert. Seriously, best butter pecan ice cream I have ever had!

Bedtime came pretty early as we had plans of visiting Gettysburg National Military Park the next day.
